Clamping Systems, The Embroiderer’s Best Friend

March 12, 2020

All embroiderers have struggles from time to time with an item that just cannot be hooped in a traditional tubular frame. It is a challenge that many deal with on a regular basis and it may end up with a company having to turn business and potential profits away.

A clamping system is an investment every embroiderer should consider for growing their business. These systems are easy to attach, versatile and will solve many of your hooping challenges.

Where do these clamps help?

  • Backpacks
  • Pockets
  • Cuffs
  • Collars
  • Yokes
  • Aprons
  • Towels (with grommets)
  • Scarfs
  • Sheer, Delicate Fabrics
  • Bags
  • Padded Bag Flaps
  • Thick Outerwear
  • Headwear (On All Sides)
  • Beanies
  • Bucket Hats

Backpacks and Bags

This is a great place to start! I would recommend for all embroiderers to research the Slimline Clamping System from Hoop Tech Products. These amazing accessories use spring-loaded clamping chassis with interchangeable windows of varying sizes.

A clamping system allows you to sew through thick bag flaps, get into small pockets and hold irregularly shaped or heavier pieces. Just think about the potential for backpacks, briefcases, lunch bags, totes, beanies, duffle bags, luggage and stadium seats, to name few! How many of these items have you turned away because they were too difficult to hoop?

How Does It Work?

Amy Calvert, Owner at Hooptech, created this video mash-up that shows just how easy it is to access difficult areas with a clamping system.

We also created a video while filming for SanMar U using the Hooptech system showing how easy it is to clamp a thick bag.

The Slimline is not the only system offered by Hoop Tech products. They also offer specialty clamps for shirt pockets, gloves, shoes and strapping, and let’s not forget about their amazing Gen2 Cap systems that we will cover in a future blog.

There are also other options from your equipment manufacturers that have proprietary attachments such as Barudan’s Gator Clamp and Tajima’s Air Type Clamp Frame offered by Hirsch Solutions. Check with your equipment suppliers for more information.

Also, I highly recommend that you get out to the trade shows. Try and visit one of the large ISS, Print United or Printwear shows where you will see the latest and greatest offered in the industry. And as always, we would love to meet you. So come by the SanMar booth and say “Hi!” to the Decorator & Digital Solutions crew.
