Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Repurpose Old Tees

April 18, 2017

Old textiles, including everything from t-shirts and socks to curtains and towels, account for a significant portion of space in today’s landfills. In honor of Earth Day, we’re taking a look at some fun ways to turn a favorite old tee into something new.

T-Shirt Quilt

If you’re like me, t-shirts are your favorite souvenirs and you’ve amassed a drawer (or two) full of memories over the years. A t-shirt quilt is a great way to use and show off a bunch of your favorite keepsakes. Follow these directions or search for other templates online.

Tote Bag

Reusable bags are incredibly popular for picking up groceries, running errands around town or heading to the gym. Consider making your own durable, washable version with just a couple quick cuts and two seams.

Make a Toy for Fido

It’s a simple fact of life and pet ownership that dogs love to chew on things. Instead of watching your pup tear up your favorite pair of shoes or that cute couch pillow you recently bought, make him a new toy out of old shirts.

…or Felix

The feline members of the family also need toys to chase and destroy. Use old shirts to make these dapper mice toys certain to keep your cat entertained.

Knotted Headband

No one will believe this adorable headband started its life as an assortment of t-shirts.

There are so many creative and unique ideas online for using old t-shirts for new projects. If these don’t work for you, be sure to search for more options before tossing your tees.
