Sustainable Products for a Better World

September 22, 2020

Last week we spent some time examining the ways companies might fall into the tempting habits of Greenwashing, which means they may not be walking the walk as much as they are talking the talk when it comes to sustainability.

While it might feel a little overwhelming to want to implement more sustainable practices, or to offer more sustainable products, remember that small steps can still make a big difference. Start with just a few new practices, a few new products, and you’re on your way. Need some help knowing what products to offer? We’ve got you covered!

At SanMar we’ve been proud to continue to provide more and more sustainable products to customers. The demand is high and we’re excited to be part of the trend. We understand how important it is to take the time to truly understand each part of our product’s stories, to take steps towards reducing our environmental footprint, and offering and growing number of products that are sustainable.

We’re excited to share some of our sustainable product highlights below, which you can learn about even more in our webcast Business Practices For a Better World.

  • The District® Re-TeeTM and Re-FleeceTM family is born from scraps and worn with pride. Made with 100% recycled fabric, these styles are made from reclaimed materials that could otherwise end up in a landfill. The colors are derived from the original scraps, meaning valuable resources are saved from no longer needing to undertake the dying process. This is an exciting family of styles to watch as it continues to grow in popularity in demand.

  • SanMar is both honored and thrilled to partner with ethically and environmentally conscious brand, Allmade, to become the exclusive supplier of the brand. Founded by screen printers for screen printers, Allmade is an impact-driven company that is dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty and reducing our industry’s impact on the environment.

  • Packing every one of their bags with purpose, Cotopaxi is one of our newest brands we offer and their sustainable product design is one-of-a-kind while also empowering the individuals who make their gear. Made with high-quality, remnant fabric originally produced for other purposes, this means that less waste ends up in landfills. In addition, the sewers who make the bags are free to choose which fun color combo goes together, giving them final creative control over every pack.

  • When it comes to small steps making a difference, the Port & Company® Core Blend Tee is a perfect example of how a little recycled adds up a lot over time. This cotton/poly blend tee is made with up to 5% recycled polyester from plastic bottles, so it helps reduce waste while also being a comfortable tee.

Sustainability in the apparel industry is a trend that is continuing to grow in practice, excitement and interest. More and more customers are putting their money where their sustainable-beliefs are and it’s a great time to get in the game.
